The Daily Post in association with Llangollen Hotels Group have been running a "Wedding of the Year " competition for the last few months. Thousands of votes were cast for the final 75 nominated couples and a winner has been announced.
And the winners are ..................
Donna Griffiths & Marc Roberts
Waitress-turned-bookmaker Donna feared she would never be well enough to organise a wedding, after falling seriously ill last April and spending six months in hospital. Electrician Marc, who met Donna when he was a chef at Penrhos Arms, Llanfair PG, supported her through four operations to remove much of her colon. Medics had diagnosed ulcers in her bowel, which left Donna, an ex-pupil of Llangefni Ysgol Gyfin, malnourished.
When her hair fell out Marc, who visited her daily in hospital in Ysbyty Gwynedd, Bangor and twice weekly when she was moved to Manchester’s Hope hospital – constantly carrying rose bouquets – shaved his head too. Now back on her feet following an ileostomy and fed by a tube, Donna is back at their home in Brynsiencyn, and hoping to return soon to work at William Hill’s Caernarfon, Bangor and Anglesey offices. She hopes nurses and doctors who’ve cared for her will join well-wishers when she finally ties to knot with Marc.
